The wipers work, but washers are intermittent, ie they used to work on both wiper speeds but now they only work when the wipers are not wiping but that is not strictly true,I can try to use them just on there own and nothing happens, also the water can really rush out the nossels and other times it comes out but half the strength.I suppose what I’m trying say is that they are very intermittent.

Have you got a blocked filter ?
I used to use the blue stuff from supermarkets but they blocked my filter in the e46.

Mart.
Only the E46 cab left now.
Just got too old.

Can you hear the motor buzzing when you press the stalk--you can check this out of the car with the bonnet up and listen. I think you may have a switch problem where the contacts are not making good contact when you press the stalk. You can also check to see if you are getting voltage at the washer motor when you press the stalk--a test light is useful for this as it provides a load at the connector. Don't think there is a filter at least on my e30.

I can’t seem to hear the motor, are the contacts in the switch, and can it be taken apart and repaired.

You would need to see if your motor is actually working by putting 12 volts to it --it more than likely is. I have a photo of the switch somewhere so will have a look for it. I had an issue where the contact from the switch was not able to reach the second contact but this can be repaired---you just need to bend one of the contacts so that when you pull on the stalk it does make contact. Likely, its years of pulling on the stalk is the cause of it.

If the motors working you'll hear it. Mine recently stopped working and it was the T valve that splits the fluid between the two nozzles. Try the washers with the bonnet open and look at the hoses for leaks. Also try intensive wash to see if that works.

wash.wipe spacer.JPG
Just a photo of the switch removed showing both contacts. I have a small piece of plastic behind the contact on the left so that the switch contact can reach it when pressed and it activates the wash-wipe. The contact on the left had moved too far inwards so the plastic insert pushed it out enough. This was a temporary fix a couple of years ago to solve a problem but is likely now to remain permanent. Maybe this is your problem also, maybe not.

Hopefully so. The Irish weather though does tend to be harder on wiper mechanisms.
