Which one is better? In terms of engine noise, reliability, and anything else you can think of. https://9apps.ooo/

never really dealt with either the M10 or the M40, but i've read a few times online that the M10 is the stronger of the 2.

a few years ago i did see an M10 turbo also, have a read of this.

M10 is very tunable and a good old fashioned bomb proof unit. However an M40 is more modern and easier to get parts for.

I have both the M10 in my E30 and M40 in E36. M10 is more relaxed and M40 revs more freely. You don't have to worry about changing cambelts in the M10 but with M40 you do and in my case as I do few miles the M40 gets the new belt every 4 years when I have done just 5k miles.

It is a walk in the park to change on an M40 though.

The M10 if you want to get performance increases as its a better platform. M40 for something to run about in
E30 325is with M20B31

The M10 is old, inefficient and quite heavy. The M40 is lighter, better on fuel with better power and torque.

If you wanted power, you'd start with an M42 or M44.
