Sorry to hear about that mate. If that had happened to me I'd be calling him something a lot more obscene than a prat. The little f*ckwits who do this sort of sh1t are the scum of the earth and should have their hands cut off with a blunt, rusty blade.
Taylor.

I wouldn't claim for that if a new roof is the same as your excess then you would basicly get free fitting.... but is that worth your no-claims??
i would do anything to keep the ncb its worth a fortune
but i would also do my very best to find the little T"*T that did it and make him realise that your "not happy"

not worth involving or even mentioning it to your insurers as you are going to foot 9/10 of the cost with your excess and your insurers will pull your pants down at renewal as even if they chuck out Ԛ£50 in the end, it counts as a claim and in their eyes when assessing you as a risk they will think" he's had his hood slashed once, he maybe parks in a shit area" or untold other thoughts which will rate you more expensive than an identical punter who does not have a claim for vandalism.
Put a wanted thread up on here, check some of the breakers, a very good example may be had for less than a new jobbie. Do a search on here for "convertible" "hood" "cabrio" as this may lead to websites where replacements can be had.
Ԛ£800 would get you a hard top, which look uber-cool but aren't as flexible as the folding top, so it's either on or not.

Roof slashing & Keying.

I just can't accept why anyone would do that. Breaking into a car, stealing it, whatever - there's a point to that, but pure vandalism? If I ever caught anyone doing that to any car they'd get a kicking.
Still, could be worse - a new hood's gotta be nice & Ԛ£350 is a bargain... just don't go through the insurance as mentioned above!

If you catch the tw@t, cut 2 big holes in his head
Went round to my mates garage yesterday and he was just starting work on a newish silver Golf which someone had poured some sort of acid on. They did a proper job - every panel, every light (plastic) both bumpers and even his alloys. Only thing unmarked is the glass.
Going to cost himԚ£1k + parts and when it's done who's to say the b@stards won't do it again?

try bas-international.com just bought one and top quality, price 320-350 i think. search around and you can find tech reports on how to fit yourself, not really technically difficult but fiddly and a two/three man job in a garage. I will do a tech report when fitting mine but not for a few weeks.
for a quick fix they also sell material so you can patch it up with rubber glue. For an immadiate bodge fix use a pair of jeans and glue from underneath ugly but works, my bodge job now three months old
not pretty and pisses off the wife but have a butchers....
the rip...after the bodge
the bodge job...

it seems there is enough interest so i will do the tech report, good thing is these lads who will do it are experienced fitters but they will have similar tools as you would have lying around your garage floor rusting away, i.e. no specialist equipment
wait unitl end Jan when my front seal comes and i will get on with the job.

Also in need of a new roof. Links are proving good but if anyone can indicate cost/availability and location of rubber seal, I'd be very grateful.

Bump!
Any news mrLEE?
Almost given up on just getting a new rear window fitted (Ԛ£200+vat doesn't seem worth it...), really not sure about trying to stitch one in myself (Ԛ£50 but would I manage?!), so it's probably down to getting a whole hood fitted or trying to fit one myself...
Looks like there's gonna be about Ԛ£100 difference there, so I'm very interested in how you get/got on!

if you have 6 years non claims why not get it protected and then claim...
The roof from BAS cost me Ԛ£380 and i have had a quote for Ԛ£200+vat for fitting...I have full instructions but am chickening out of doing it myself..
the cheapest i have seen including fitting is Ԛ£499 from
http://www.hothoodsbmw.com/hoods.htm
but the BAS one is better quality material
