Engine soundproofing

Hi,

I’ve got a 1990 E30 that I’ve had for over 10 years. Recently had quite a bit of work on it by a garage but looking to do some of the easier tasks myself (Got to start somewhere).

I’ve bought a replacement soundproofing for the engine bay as the original one is falling apart. My question is, what should I use to clean the remains of the previous one off? Also, what adhesive should I use to fit the new one?

Welcome to the zone ,if you bought a genuine BMW one,all you do is peal off the paper and stick it on,as for cleaning the old adhesive off, you not the first person to ask this.There’s a guy on here bbs325i he did post about this job but I can’t remember what he used,I got a feeling it was brake cleaner or something like that but what ever it was it did a great job, maybe pm him.If not he runs BMR down in Gatwick give him a ring and ask for Barry, a very helpful guy and he knows his stuff.

Pic`s are required of your car please .lol
As has been said, peel off and stick but make sure your positioning is correct as it`s bloody good stuff.
I used WD40 to clean up once all the crap was off .Enjoy !
Only the E46 cab left now.
Just got too old.

Every time someone posts this question I post the same reply and I'm sure it's ignored!. Don't bother removing the old adhesive, it's not necessary, just shift the old dry foam. I did it like this 10+ years ago and it's still holding firm.

Thanks for all your replies. I didn’t buy the genuine article but if this stuff is no good then I think I might just buy it as some of the photos I have seen that you posted show how good it looks.
