Hi all,

Might seem like an obvious question, but thought it's worth checking before pulling the trigger on these:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-3-Series ... SwDTdfntsR

They seem in fair condition (would refurb them and buy new centre caps). But, is the asking price decent for what I'd supposedly be getting?

I have a 318i LUX 2 door, and wanted to remove the standard bottle tops and replace for 14 inch style 5's. My car has a couple of the LUX extras like the boot spoiler and blanking panel on the front bumper, so I want it to look more like an IS from a distance :D

If it's 14 inch you want then you should take them. As long as they're straight that's a fair price.

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, I'm specifically looking for 14's and there aren't too many for sale. Assuming I can still get hold of the centre caps from BMW?

Caps are still available but if the price of 15" caps is anything to go by prepare yourself for a shock!

Pacerpete usually has these for sale for closer to £100, I would like to think you could buy wheels and centres for under £200

But if you want it to look like an iS then you should be buying 15" wheels

I thought the iS came with 14" as standard?

The wheels in this ad look "odd" to me. The design is different from the wheels on my 318i LUX. Notice the shape of the "spokes" as they meet the rims. Anybody know what these wheels might be originally off ? My guess is that they look like BBS off the Golf Clipper from early 90's
I have attached a grab from the ad and one from another bay ad that look more like original BMW should.

Thanks - well spotted indeed. I ended up scoring 14'' BBS wheels from somebody closer by, for a similar price but with tyres and original centre caps. The wheels are in much better condition than the ones in the above ad too, but I'm still going to get them refurbed so they look good as new. They came off an E30 and I saw the car they were removed from (plus they're original castings) so I'm comfortable with the purchase.

I love my bottle tops, BBS are nice too but a bitch to keep clean.

I also like my bottletops which I'll keep in storage, but I do prefer the BBS wheels

They are brilliant but expensive.
I know because I have them. The only non OE thing on my 325i apart from the soon to be Scorpion exhaust.

Would love to see some pics and get your experience.
15” basket wheels are highly desirable here and people want drug money for them.

By the time you take a used set and spend £ on checking, straightening, repairing and painting - may as well get some new ones.
For the purists BBS from BMW...
But if the max lites are just as good.

I like the tyre options for 15s.
Very limited choices in 14s for good tyres over here...

Hopefully this will give you an idea. I had to buy the BMW stickers for the caps on top but they were £20 so not bad.

Look very nice. I also bought a new set of emblems for mine which I stuck on after a thorough cleaning of the centre caps.

I still haven't got round to sending the wheels to the local wheel refurb place, mainly because the weather has been bad and I don't want to drive the car around in salt. I have to take the car there so they can swap the brand new Firestones off my bottle tops and put them onto the basketweaves.

So ref another comment about tyres, I'm more than happy with my firestones so far. They have good all-round grip and road noise is pretty quiet. They won't break the bank either.

The IS was available with both 14 and 15'' basketweaves. The 318i LUX (which mine is) either came with 14'' basketweaves or bottle tops, depending on what was available at the time. Both were an optional extra on an ordinary 316 or 318i

Everything was an optional extra if your pockets were deep enough.
