While I like the look the price is a bit too steep for my pension. Have to stick with the Pioneer it came with.

I o have a complete Pioneer KEX M900RDS with tuner, CD deck and cd shuttle for 1,500€ if anyone ants the top radio for the 80s.

All comments by me should be taken in the right sprite, Jack Daniels is fine.
I still have the original Blaupunkt Boston that came with mine when new along with the handbook and parts list. It still works as advertised. Wonder if that new Bremen will work as well in 37 years
I did give that a brief run last year but I am more worried about breaking a drive belt on that than the cam belt on the B23

I think the Nakamichi TD1200 currently sitting in the chromie that replaced Blaupunkt would give it a run for its money.

I think it looks great I really do, but the price is really steep for something that isn't even a Blaupunkt.
Blaupunkt was originally part of Bosch and then sold off years ago. Since went bankrupt and a Chinese company has bought the rights to the brand name to stick on the front of what is internally just a cheap generic head unit. Admittedly though, it looks remarkably close to the original Bremen / Toronto!

I only wish they had put the aux port somewhere else so you could play actual cassettes. I have a Phil Collins album on tape and like the retro feel of having it in the car and inserting into the old radio.
Do people still use USB sticks for music??

Well on top of the Nakamichi that is currently in, I still have the original '83 Blaupunkt Boston SQM that came with the car complete with handbook and parts list. It still works well but unfortunately it is not much to write home about sound wise which was why it was replaced with the Nakamichi
I’d be interested to know how to do the illumination as currently on mine it’s not hooked up.
Just noticed another retro offering from Blaupunkt

Another option for those that want complete originality is these guys. They use the AM radio function to add bluetooth to old radios.tha881 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 07, 2023 7:49 amJust noticed another retro offering from Blaupunkt

Not cheap but I still have the original Blaupunkt for my 323i and might be tempted unless I get the Nakamichi working again.

I got Chrome London to convert my original Blaupunkt. Brilliant conversion and works seamlessly.
I have just bought one of these for my 1987 325i (the original Hamburg was available from 1983).
The small number of screen colours was a disappointment, but a software upgrade is available from the nice people at Blaupunkt.
This increases the available colours from 7 to 4,096 (Variocolour).
Great stuff, would be nice to see a pic of it installed in the e30! I'm sure they will sell a lot more units with the full colour optionsgoneawol wrote: ↑Thu Feb 06, 2025 7:36 pmI have just bought one of these for my 1987 325i (the original Hamburg was available from 1983).

Here’s mine fitted.
This is my original Boston, ironically it was an originally an SQM23 for 1983 but replaced under warranty with an SQM24 a year later. Still works but was replaced with the Nakamichi in the late 80s
Having an SQM23 back would be good
