Due to a massive data loss, I am looking into storing "data" on line but have absolutely no idea where to start so that`s where you come in
I would not store a great deal so I am looking for a safe and "free" service if possible.
I am pretty thick when it comes to this type of stuff, so try and keep it simple please, lol

Cheers Mart.

There are two kinds of people....Those who have lost data and Those who are going to lose data.

The whole thing is a nightmare....nothing is fool proof.

I have industrial strength LTO tape back up...over 100 terrabytes of data....the recommendation is dual copies and one set off site in a controlled environment.

Cloud is fine for small stuff...but slow to upload and when your cloud provider goes bust next week your data is gone...As it happens most if not all data storage cloud networks use LTO.

Hard drives have an official 6 year life...many last longer...many not so much...dual copies and spin the drives up every so often...is about the best you can do.

Newer SSD drives have the same MTBF as older spinning drives...its a myth that they last longer.

Welcome to my world...

Damn sold of a load of those a while back, I assume as you are a business as its all tax deductible, the modern age creates more data, now you go on holiday and take 2000 photos years back you where careful about using 4 rolls of 36 exposure 35mm film and realising when you got home the last film slipped off the sprocket........

Ha ha !! Its so true...where the hell are we all supposed to put all this stuff...

I remember when digital cameras first appeared and you would get shots printed...or at least some of them...now everyone takes a million pictures and videos and then? Save them...and never look at them again... at least with a 36 exposure roll of 35mm you were more picky about what you shot but its all about quantity.

Mobile phone with 130 megapixels and 4 lens'

Well it's my job so Ihave to embrace it..

Im not that good with windows/PC stuff but I have 2 drives in my macbook, one has the system on it and is the main use, the other is a 1tb drive that is used for storage and backup, they were both good quality brand drives so hopefully will last, fortunately ive never had a drive fail on me but reading your issues makes me want to backup everything again!

Maybe USB sticks can be used for storage/backup use as you can buy them with large memory now and they are small and easily removed, easy to keep safe etc

Trouble is physical or digital copies can fail, data loss or house fire/flood etc, spent 2 weeks scanning load of 35mm film as a Christmas present for the kids (no I am not a tight git as it was from their childhood) that was a pain..........
