Getting back to the original issue I have recently noticed an American ebay sellers items now have "+20% VAT will apply" in small text next to them, this is an addition from ebay not the seller, who's prices remain the same, after a brief search this is due to ebays "global shipping program" where they are offering a sellers items worldwide and providing the shipping for them, this obviously comes at extra cost to the buyer as ebay are also charging VAT to the item you have already paid for as well as the extra shipping costs. You are better off contacting the seller directly and asking them if they will post to UK using their local post office system, commercial goods via post are apparently customs/VAT free up to £135 and the limit for gifts is £39

You have to fill in a customs declaration. I suppose a seller could lie on it.

I agree with Satan, just bought a tap and die set, both from UK addresses one charged VAT the other didn’t. Same T&D set.

Just my final comment on this, there are a lot of scammers out there taking advantage of people’s confusion (well mine anyway) Sent for some Bilsteins from Germany, few days later I got a text from FedEx asking for £20 to cover extra tax caused by Brexit. Tracking number on message didn’t work so I phoned FedEx. They didn’t recognise the tracking number and said they can only assume it’s a scam. How do these people even know you’ve sent for something.

Its more than likely just a bulk email scam. I got one during the week and have no orders due from FedEx, so it got deleted immediately. You get one and it seems credible because you do have an outstanding order - its generally how these guys end up getting money off people. They probably sent 100k emails in one go. They generally buy the email address from lists produced during website hacks - so if you were registered on a car website which had its user list hacked, they immediately know at least one of your interests.HenryM3 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 9:00 pmJust my final comment on this, there are a lot of scammers out there taking advantage of people’s confusion (well mine anyway) Sent for some Bilsteins from Germany, few days later I got a text from FedEx asking for £20 to cover extra tax caused by Brexit. That's also the source of the scam emails which say they hacked your laptop and caught you playing with yourself on your webcam where they include a password as proof that you were hacked - the password is actually accurate as it was retrieved during the site hack.

Living in Spain for the past 21 years I have a much different aspect on the whole Brexit suicide thing. I have to close my UK eBay account as it now makes buying anything from the UK too expensive and selling to the UK is also expensive when duty and VAT is added. A few years ago I stopped buying from the USA as they started to use that horrible global postage thing with Pitney-Bowers and it doubled what I pay for parts. Sometimes I can get it duty free if under $22. I believe it's under 32GBP there.
Supermarket shelves in British supermarkets like Morrisons in Gibraltar and Iceland in Spain are looking very sad and We can't bring food from Gib' into Spain so no point in going to Gib' shopping so no point in banking in Gib' either, gone over to Revolut. It is a total cluster fuck but you Brexiters were warned.
I'll give it less than 10 years and the UK will come crawling back.

I’ll give the rejoin process less time than 10
Years. It will commence shortly after the Tory term over. Regrettably that means a three year’s wait.

I don’t understand why people constantly refer to him as Boris. He’s not your mate.
Call him Johnson. I don’t recall anyone calling Cameron Dave, no matter how much he wanted them to, or May, Theresa.

Not sure why it would be different for you being in Spain
I had this conversation with an American who I regularly buy items from via ebay, he doesn't add anything nor is he liable for anything, ebay add the VAT regardless of whether it is needed or not, I pay the duty if needed when it lands here.

For people selling on eBay I don't think it makes much difference. Massive issue for companies though - non UK companies need to register with the UK tax authorities and collect VAT on their behalf now. Haulage companies also need to front up VAT on the cargo they're carrying which has seen a spike in them refusing UK trips.DanThe wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 7:45 pmBojo is better, Cam-moron, Treason May, Millipede, Gordoom Brown, B-liar![]()

Ferries here have been shifted from the Belfast-Liverpool and Dublin-Holyhead route to cover the Rosslare-Cherbourg route instead.

I can imagine. Have stopped buying any parts from the UK now to be honest - which was a chunky enough amount given the E30, E36, F13, F06 and CRX all get stuff bought for them. Everyone I know has just shifted to using amazon.de, ebay.de etc.

What was it in 2016 that caused so many people in the English speaking world to be so easily duped by crooks and charlatans?
One lot, at least, have now seen the light, and voted to start the recovery process, but unfortunately for us over here, we don't get the chance.
Anyone bought anything from Autodoc since the 1st?

From what I understand it was a thing called “sovereignty”. Never heard anyone mention that before 2016, but it became all the rage.
I also recall many crying out to close the borders. Now, when we need to they remain open, of course.

I remember sitting in a hotel in Liverpool during Trumps inauguration, and it was depressing to see such a scumbag and his cronies get into power. But with Trump, the worst case scenario was 8 years of him. Brexit was depressing on a whole other level - because it is never getting reversed. Its one of those scenarios where absolutely no one comes out better for it, and everyone suffers the consequences.Brianmoooore wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 8:20 pmWhat was it in 2016 that caused so many people in the English speaking world to be so easily duped by crooks and charlatans?

I don’t know what the solution to this problem is, but I’m going to chance it with something that might be a bit of blue-sky thinking, like.......an arrangement with the EU? *cough* rejoying. *cough*
On the bright side, Scotland and N.Ireland are talking about independence.
Brexshit has been great!

Ten years time: Scotland an independent country, not doing too well economically, but being subsidised to a degree by the EU, who they have managed to negotiate some kind of associate membership with.
Northern Ireland: Fully reunited with the rest of Eire, whose population probably secretly resent having to subsidise the north.
Wales: will have made independence noises, but will still be part of the little that remains of the 'UK'.
UK (just England and Wales): The 1% will have hoovered up an even bigger share of the wealth, and the rest will be muddling along OK, but not like we could have been.
The government will have realised that being 20 miles away from the world's largest economy means that you are well inside their gravitational field, and we will have adopted BINO. Doing as we're told, aligning with EU laws and standards, but having no say in how these are framed, getting some, but far from all, of the economic benefits we would have had from membership.
Johnson's deal: The EU wanted us as a dog on a lead, forced to turn and go where the EU said. Johnson successfully changed the lead for an electric shock collar instead. We can refuse an order, if we want, but it'll hurt.

I think it won’t be long before the UK government tries to break elements of the agreement. As a result, the EU will impose huge tariffs. Let us not forget the government was quite happy to consider breaking international law.
It’s a disaster. The fishing and farming industry is realising this, but Bozo put things down to them not filling in the paperwork properly. - so much for reducing the red tape.
Come on, who in their right minds thought Bozo, Gove, farage, JRM ever worked in the interests of the common man, FFS?!

Franky - its no secret - my marginal tax rate is 52% or so already - the thought of having to see my taxes hiked even further to cover NI isn't appealing, and that goes for loads of people I know. But - the Sunday Times reported this morning that a majority up North are now in favour of calling a border poll, and it'll pass easily down here, so I think your 10 year estimate is bang on. Scotland will go too.Brianmoooore wrote: ↑Sun Jan 24, 2021 11:15 amNorthern Ireland: Fully reunited with the rest of Eire, whose population probably secretly resent having to subsidise the north.
