I’m guessing there will be large variance in splitter performance. Some seem to be powered and others not. I’m a mechanical engineer not an electrical one so I have no idea about the science. I’m starting with a cheapo one and not expecting much. The factory DAB in my CLS doesn’t get great reception however my GF’s GLC works great. I’m unsure as to how well an AM / FM antenna will work for DAB anyway as it was never intended for that.

I'll let you know how it goes. DAB on wheels website also has a star rating for each type which is helpful. I did read the copper type work better if earthed to bare metal, opening the door definitely helped but I can see issues with that on the road
It does seem hit and miss, I have a 2013 BMW and the factory DAB works fine, the wife's 2013 VW less so. We also have a DAB radio in the house that literally works with 200mm of thin wire antenna.

I'm using a splitter with mine and have been using previously with a Blaupunkt Woodstock DAB and Pioneer 8700. Was always good enough for me but to be honest I pretty much only use Internet radio through streaming now so less of a concern.

Received and fitted my splitter today and I'm very pleased with it
Can get lots more stations and crystal clear although only tried on the drive so far but definitely way ahead of the screen one and obviously no visible modifications.
For anyone interested its a Kinetic DAA-7001 priced less than £18. It does need 12v power but easy enough.

Eightwood non powered version for £10.99 made my FM reception worse and got absolutely no DAB reception. May be related to the two DIN to ISO adapters I had to use.Dlb26 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 29, 2020 5:05 pmReceived and fitted my splitter today and I'm very pleased with it![]()

Out of curiosity what FM antenna are you using? I replaced my non functioning electric Hirschmann with what was supposed to be a direct replacement but required some wiring modifications.

I'll have to look what brand it is but it's the electric telescopic that came with the car. I've been out and about in the Lincolnshire wolds this weekend, great roads largely empty 10 mins away, and had only the briefest drop out, this is not unknown with a modern factory DAB install around here so I would say the set up is as good as.

The factory DAB in my CLS only works well near major cities. It’s very patchy where I am on Kent/Surrey borders.Dlb26 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2020 9:52 pmI'll have to look what brand it is but it's the electric telescopic that came with the car. Interesting, I would have expected great DAB signal that close to London.

So all completed now. Used a powered ISO splitter from amazon to reduce the number of adapters. DAB reception seems to get better the more I use it. It’s on par with my factory CLS DAB reception and much nicer than an on glass antenna. FM reception is slightly downgraded. BT connection is way smoother and faster than my old alpine unit. Totally recommend it.

Finished installing my new Continental TR7412UB-OR today. Sorting out the wiring took a bit of work and hurt my brain, but it was very worth it. It looks good, sound quality is much improved, has all the modern tech.... and amazingly the radio has come back to life (after previously spending hours trying to fix the antenna and getting nowhere, it turns out there must have been an issue with the old head unit or wiring). As a final added bonus, I managed to strip out all of the crappy old car-phone wiring during the install.

In the spare blank I fitted a switch to stop the aerial going up if I was playing MP3's and not using the radio, on a ti top it may be fine but on a convertible your car looks like a radio controlled version and the wind noise can annoy you.

Having said that the antenna going up and down is somewhat... fascinating!

I recently replaced the mast on my aerial and it works properly now.
When I parked the car some random young kid saw it and said to his parents "...look at that - it disappeared into the car..."

Just used a standard switch like a heater one and emery'd the graphics off it, I think on a stereo its the blue wire you cut (do check) for the antenna and the switch goes in between, its a simple job.twenty wrote: ↑Mon Nov 09, 2020 9:05 pmSounds good.
