Hello, complete newbie to e30s and e30 zone here.

I have very rough idle all the time but especially when cold. I thought cleaning the idle control valve might help but I can’t find it!

Can anyone tell me exactly where the icv is?

Thanks

The 316i comes with two completely different engines, depending on production date. M10 and M40.
What age is yours?

It's under the right hand side of the inlet manifold.
To get at it, and other bits hidden in there, you remove the top part of the manifold by undoing the the obvious bolts.
ICV won't cause a rough idle, just an incorrect idle. Air leaks are the likely cause.
