It's part of the dealer-fit AC system, a poor man's version of the factory set-up!

I'm not too sure on specifics, I just know it's an inferior version of the factory set-up. For one there's no re-circulation button and as far as I know the cold air only comes out from the vent in your picture rather than all 4 dash mounted vents. It is an 'original' system but one fitted by the dealer rather than factory. I assume it uses the same compressor and pipe work.

As a side note, the hazard switch is upside down.

Also, the air vents are slightly out of sync and the steering wheel is in the wrong place.

Ah yes, well spotted, I didn't notice the centre vents, very shoddy. The steering wheel however is in the correct place.

All right, so a special order. I thought a huge mistake was made on the assembly line and not noticed.

Ah yes - but did the cigarette lighter icon orientation cause random twitches for anyone?

Why did you have to mention that? why?! :banghead:

I'd also prefer the temp setting to be at 12 o'clock but at least it has the classic right left left line up on the vent sliders.

Yeah, I would just walk away seeing all that. Biggest sin is the upside down Hazard switch unless they are fitted like that for Australia maybe.

No has mentioned the clock?

10 past 10 is the golden rule

In all seriousness to JVaz11's question, you could try and covert it back to a factory fitted A/C system.
But why?

I'd say, if the A/C works, there's no harm keeping it as it.
Definitely a talking point with a rare + old-school a dealer-fitted BMW accessory like that.

Kinda like having a period correct radio head unit.
(inferior to today's offerings but maintains the originality)

I will like to make this car into my daily driver,
And unfortunately here in Florida is to hot. We tested the AC unit and it works but it is very weak.
If I buy this car, the AC will have to be change.
Thanks
