After having the kit sitting on my shelf for 5 years or more I finally fitted the cruise control today. Of course it doesn’t work.

I got the kit from the US many years ago and I believe it came from an auto as the clutch switch part of the loom had the loopy thing in it. So I haven’t fitted a clutch switch yet. The bracket for the brake switch didn’t seem to fit anywhere so I tapped off from the brake light switch for that input.

I followed the wiki, which was very helpful, some more pictures would be good though.

My big question is, where does it take power from? As far as I can tell, there’s no power to it, do you need to run a power cable to it at all ?

I think it comes from here

Wiring diagram here

Have you done the "Cruise Control Not Working" at the bottom of this page?

Will try the cruise not working tomorrow. However I don’t recall providing any power to it during the installation, all I did was run the loom in and connect all the plugs, so there’s no surprise to me that it’s not working.

From the wiki wiring diagrams the power is

Violet/White power ACC position
Green/White power Run or Start

From the loom I have it is this plug

It goes in R&S in the C302 accessory socket here

As flybynite wrote above, the sole power source for the cruise system comes via pin R of the accessories socket, which carries 12 volts, switched ignition (key positions 1,2 and 3), from fuse 6. The wire feeding the socket is purple/green, but the wire plugged into it, I think, is purple/white.

This is exactly what I needed. I had that plug wired to the brake switch.

Now I just need to sort brake and clutch switches, then I should be good to go. It won’t be before my trip to France unfortunately.

It's a two pin plug. The system uses the existing brake switch and the other wire (green/red) is the signal from the brake switch on pin S. The clutch switch isn't 100% necessary - just short the two wires to it together until you get one sorted.
Note that the diagram for the accessories socket is upside down from how it is fitted in RH drive cars.

Mine’s an LHD car, took me a few minutes to figure it out... also upside down.

The clutch switch is not necessary at all, because you would normally brake before dipping the clutch, so the cruise control drops out then, I have it installed without. It is really useful on the French autoroutes.

Clutch switches are easy to get new for some reason.
