Hi,
I'm trying to swap a Momo wheel which came with my E30 for a more original 3 spoke. I'm currently stuck on how to remove the Momo hub. I've removed the nut and unlocked the steering but can't seem to remove the hub itself to fit the new wheel.
Is there anything else that might be holding it in besides the nut? I've tried yanking it with the wheel attached, hammering the hub and wheel. Even when I pry the hub it seems to move the plastic column more than the hub itself.
At this point I feel like my only option is getting a wheel puller but I can't really find one locally and ideally wanted this to be a one day job. Do I have any other options?
Stuck Momo steering wheel hub

Alpina use the same Momo hub and there is nothing that should stop it once the nut is off. They can stick well though .
Better off having the wheel on the hub and giving it a bit of side-to side (pulling one side of the wheel rim and pushing the other) to try and break the seal while pulling
You could also try gving the top of the column a good tap to shock it (put the nut back loose first so as not to round over the thread)
Bit of penetrating oil cant hurt either.
When you do get it off a bit of light grease on the splines does wonders for the next time.

Does the Momo boss engage with the steering lock? Standard wheel won't come off unless the key is in the ignition.

The one I have here has the splines that engage with the steering lock but it does not have the flange on the back side of it to stop the wheel coming off.Brianmoooore wrote: ↑Sat Aug 08, 2020 7:13 pmDoes the Momo boss engage with the steering lock? Might be that one is different but from what I remember, the wheel is pretty loose and free from the column before the steering lock stops it.
Still worth checking the obvious though I guess

Hi,
Apologies for not replying. I wasn't aware the first time I made an attempt that the key was required to unlock the wheel. For my second go, I ended up hammering it with a deadblow like a neanderthal for a day which didn't work, then I bought a puller off Amazon which worked perfectly. Turns out it was just stuck on the splines, the new 3 spoke I have comes on and off without any hassle.
Cheers for the help guys.
