I've just got this as I think I'm running out of fuel at high RPM - https://www.advancedautomotives.co.uk/w ... 6890-p.asp

The Walbro is a bit shorter and there seems to be a coupling in between the stock fuel pump and the bracket - can this be replaced by the rubber hose supplied? That coupling seems to be just to keep the fuel pump in position? Am using this as a guide. https://www.r3vlimited.com/board/forum/ ... p-retrofit

Also - the wires in the E30 are brown and red, vs black and red on the Walbro. Would I be correct in assuming brown will be earth, so I would be soldering brown to black, red to red?

Getting a spare cheap housing as a spare can't hurt and reduces chances of cock-up...

Cheers,
Gus

Black (negative) and red (positive) are the standard colours for DC wiring . BMW use red and brown for the same, with red still being positive and brown as negative, so as you say, red to red and black replaces brown.
Only thing that matters with the fixing is keeping the filter in the fuel pot, so just cut the hose to the length that pushes the pump hard down into the bottom of the bracket.

Let us know how you get on with it as I think I may need to go down that route with the M54B30

Haven't had a chance to test it out but will tomorrow - she's in and running. It's a little bit of a faff...tbh if you can keep the stock pump I would for ease. M54 is around 240hp? I am 260 and it's only 5.5K RPM that it seems to struggle...and even then I'm not 100% sure that's the issue but wanted to replace for peace of mind

Engine power has very little to do with it. The standard pump pumps fuel into an open pipe at a rate that would support several thousand bhp. It's whether it can supply sufficient peak flow for a particular engine at the pressure that the particular engine requires that matters.
Only way to tell for sure is to hook up a fuel pressure gauge with an extra long piece of hose from the tee to the gauge, and monitor the gauge while driving. At WOT the reading on the gauge should be almost what is printed on the side of the regulator.
Gauge kits on ebay for less than £20.
