Hi
Having got round to one of the roundtuit jobs and removed the wipers on my 320, I have managed to free off both of them and rebuild them. Now to make the things good again, I need two seals (or caps as BMW call them) to finish the job.
Unfortunately having tried two dealers in the UK and one in Germany, I am informed they are NLA.
On the facetwit E30zone, a chap in Europe said he had some but was asking a rather high price for them!
So does anyone on her have two in as new condition please?
Many thanks.

I have been looking for quite a while and resigned myself to paying what the facetwit E30 zone chap was asking.
Haven't bought them yet but don't need them yet either, hoping something more sensible comes out by the time I do.

Sorry , its a pity that possibly one of the most neglected items has become now as rare as hens teeth . My car still has the set up all except the motors . Good luck with your search

i found that ones from a sacrapped Volvo V40 were a perfect replacement, they have a stiff plastic shell around the seal rather than being squishy throughout like the BMW ones.
So a Volvo dealer or Ebay might be a source for these.

Sorry,just the seal itself.
The Volvo one is made out of hard plastic so wont split over time like the E30 one.
The Volvo motor too looks a clone of the BMW one, the only external diference is the electrical connector.

After a bit or research and using and American Volvo parts website, I have the following Volvo part number for the seals on their Bosch headlamp wiper motors.
The number is 1246342 and they are £3.50 for a pair. My local Volvo dealer says they are a 5 day delivery due to them coming from Sweden.
Here's hoping they are the ones. Will let you know when they arrive. If they are I will be ordering a couple more for the 323i.

Not sure how fussy you are but I seem to remember you can use a valve stem seal to good effect.

This is really useful to know about those volvo parts because I'm losing all of my washer fluid through a leak that seems to be right at the end of the nozzle on the passenger side.
The motors still work so would be nice to stop that leak and maybe replace the wiper arms themselves as the rubber is a bit tired after 30 years aha

No the seals we are talking about are at the end of the wiper shaft, nothing to do with the washers. They are to stop water getting IN to the wiper motorsLemon98 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 10:32 amThis is really useful to know about those volvo parts because I'm losing all of my washer fluid through a leak that seems to be right at the end of the nozzle on the passenger side.

That is likely to be the one way valve in the line behind the grille. I had this on one of mine as well.Lemon98 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 10:32 amThis is really useful to know about those volvo parts because I'm losing all of my washer fluid through a leak that seems to be right at the end of the nozzle on the passenger side.

On realoem the part number is 61661380464. 2 required - one for each side.
HLWW blades are 61631356734 - 4 required.

So do they fit, well sort of
Here they are side by side, Volvo on the left.
The Volvo shaft is a different design to the BMW
BMW for comparison
It fits well on the shaft the outer cover is metal so will stop the driving rain
But doesn't quite make the seal on the back
They fit on the shaft well and will seal better than perished BMW ones but they don't seal completely but for £1.80 I think they will do just fine

The seals i got from the v40 was a combination of the BMW and Volvo items in top pic.- there was the main rubber seal similar to the one on the right and then the small cap you've bought fits on the nose of the seal to give a bit more rigidity.

Hi
Yes I have got mine now and although not the same as the BMW ones they are as flybynite shows. They are still better at keeping out water than the broken ones I had.
A lot cheaper than the ones offered to me from the facetwit page.

yeah,so, i have these volvo seals fitted to my motors but i've also, because i had a few spare lying around, fitted a plastic grommet (51711932996) onto each shaft-they are a really tight fit-to act as first-line-of-defence against water.

Ahh perfect thank you!! I was under the impression you couldn't buy the wipers from BMW anymore. Really appreciate the part numbers thanks so muchhennabm wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 1:50 pmThat is likely to be the one way valve in the line behind the grille.
