I heard it was something about a group of monkeys and a dart board but I don't know how accurate that is.

The only one that truly matters out of all the numbers is E30

Yes ok got that, but why not E29 instead of 30 or 31.Does the number 30 have any relavence to the car.

Second Gen E3 so E30 first Gen was the E21, The Germans must be on LSD listening to Techno when they make the numbers up.

Read somewhere that the numbers relate somehow to the date that development started.

A long time ago there was only 3 series, 5 series, 7 series.
These ‘gaps’ have now been filled and additional series added. Was this part of a plan to leave gaps for future expansion of the range and consequently was this thinking applied to the E numbers, ie leaving gaps deliberately?
Who knows.

A long time ago there was only 3 series, 5 series, 7 series.
That also coincidentally is the time when BMW put quality and performance above everything else.
The Era of when there was only the 3, 5 (not forgeting early 6 e24) and 7 was when IMHO they were at their peak.

Has anyone seen the 2 series.... 8O Or even heaven forbid the new 7...... That front grill

Was thinking more like
1 series
2 series
4 series
6 series
Yes 8 series
X series
Z series
M series
I series
PHEV series
There’s an enormous range....almost too much choice!
