Could be speedo or pick up, pickup was replaced by previous owner, will any E30 speedo/cluster fit or are they model specific ? Thanks

i did have this problem and it was the wire connection going into the speed sensor mounted on the diff.

Wire breaks internaly at or up to a couple of inches from the diff plug.
Pull the individual wires gently, and one will probably stretch.
The cause is vibration work hardening the copper wire and making it brittle, so replace 18" or so of the wire.
You can get the right connector, with enough wire attached from one of the headlamp connectors on a scrapper. The yellow shell can be bought from the dealer for pennies, if it is broken.

I've written it a few times!! That, along with 220 ohm resistors and red/black central locking wires!orangecurry wrote:Brian - you should have that explanation as your avatar
