Fuel pressure regulator

My touring is a 320i, Sep 89 built - but fitted with an earlier M20B25. Generally runs ok, but has a definite flat spot in acceleration and can be quite difficult to start sometimes. My first thought is the fuel pressure regulator - and the potential for the 2.5 bar one from the 2.0 engine to have been fitted up instead of the 3.0 bar one.

From looking online though - none of the regulators look like mine, and I can't see the pressure written anywhere like it should be. Is this an OEM regulator?

My car has two fuel pressure regulators - one for petrol and one for propane. That looks more like the propane one than the petrol one!
Never seen anything like that on an E30, although I'm not familiar with some of the very early stuff.

My 325i is one of the early high compression engines, and it has the standard type FPR,

Nothing even on the old Jetronic 323i looks like that.

Engine is from an 87 car, so wouldn't have imagined it to be too different. Glad I'm not going crazy - will order a new one. Thanks for the replies gents.

New one ordered now anyway - bit of googling and it seems the one on there is a Malpassi regulator.

'87 engine definitely shouldn't have that on it. Does it get fed with fuel in the same way as the one that should be there? Bolt to the rail with an O ring seal in a sort of cup?

Looks like it connects up like the correct one should alright - am guessing its all the local motor factors had available at one stage. Theres a fair whiff of petrol from the exhaust too, so hopefully this will go some way to resolving it.

Bought a Piersburg regulator from Mister Auto and fitted it up today - definitely looks better! Had a minor win when I found exactly two of the bolts I needed in my box of brand new parts which I've ordered, but can't figure out what the parts are for.

Started up far easier than previously - idle was far smoother too. This is just after startup, sounds ok to me.

Vacuum reference hose is on the point of failing where it pushes onto the regulator.
