Hey zone,
I'm currently 3D printing the old E28 style mushroom shift knob, as I think it looks cool.
I am going to purchase the z3 1.9 shift stick, and was wondering if anyone knew the angle at which the gear knob click on? (The slice on top)
I know some BMW cars it was perfectly 90 degree, but some it was 75 degree. Can anyone confirm if the Z3 gear knob clicks on at 75 or 90degrees?
This will help me print my shift knob internal clips correctly!
Cheers,
3D printing shift knob

Cool!
What type of printer are you using?
(I also don’t know the answer, sorry..)

For anyone that wanted to know the shift knob slit sits at 75 degree (slightly off centre)
Update - mini project is nearly complete, shifter printed really well using ASA (apparently an upgrade from ABS).
I was then waiting on the leather upholstering to come - that arrived and put it all together. Looks pretty decent! just waiting on the bmw domed badge now as the mtech badge was way to expensive.
Will post a final photo!

RAD! I'm working on a very similar project - Leather wrapped shift knob. Different style though. Not sure the nickname, but it's just the standard rubber blob E30 shifter. I'm throwing in a couple little cool details into the updated design. I'll post here when the project is done if anyone is interested.
EDIT - OP, where did you source your leather?

Well I was able to snag a square from a local auto upholsterer. Parts should be here within a week or two. Then I'll have to make the pattern & stitch it up!
