I’ve struggled to get the c clip off. Seems to turn easily though.

Turn the key both ways, and make sure the 'over centre' bit works.
Check the wear on the alloy L shaped bit where it engages with the steel forks. A small amount of wear can be compensated for by squeezing the forks together a little.

I took the connector off from the A pillar. Slight paint over spray on connectors. One slightly corroded. Red and black wire one.

Since you've got this apart, check that the two red/black wires (to two different pins) have been cut away and joined together, to help keep those pins corrosion free.

I’m a little confused at the minute. See pics below. I was about to wire up the grey/green wires together but realised they aren’t connecting to anything but has a white plug connector. Taped up going no where. The yellow/blue I can’t find where it is to wired back to.

I need someone tell what have I missed. At the top of the first picture is a white square connector. What was that meant to be connected to?

Regards
Just try it with those wires disconnected and see what happens. There's plenty of unused plugs around the average car loom.
I'll have a look on one of my E30s sometime, and see if I can identify it.
Are there two wires connected to that plug? If so, what are the colours of the other one?
There are other things in these pics. that shouldn't be there - the two greenish translucent connectors definitely, and I don't recognise the one lying on the throttle pedal either.

The white and black is the speaker cables. The two green connectors just connect what is already wired. They are green and grey. Okay I’ll try tomorrow. I wondered were they cut to allow spray painting. What I have noticed don’t let garages put things together because they break most clips and connectors.

Regards

Richard. Thanks Brian!

Brian,

Well I got the central locking working great. Just one thing is the fuel door catches the rubber boot of the actuator bolt and therefore blocks the bolt from catching the door to lock it. Anyone solve that one. Boot locks and opens fine as well as the passenger door too😎. I left the fuel door actuator disconnected so no strain on the central locking. Thank you!

Heater valve out next.

Regards

Richard

Great news that it's all working! Only thing I can think of off hand, for the fuel door, is that the rod is sliding through the rubber, rather than pulling back the rubber bellows when it unlocks.

Paint on the pins would cause a connection issue for all electrical equipment running into the door including the electric mirrors but you can remove the plastic cover over the pins and clean them. When you have the car taken apart you will discover some surprisingly unusual connections and bodging.

Well this weekend I installed the keyless remote to the cemtral locking. (Paul my friend helped) Seems to work well until you press the remote button too many times and it times itself out. So press once. lol

I'd be more impressed if you'd installed it in the correct place - behind the glovebox.

Okay. I did mention this to Paul but he said it would be fine there. I only connected to the central locking and did not connect the indicators or alarm or horn. I did not want to complicate it any further than I had to!

I'll soon discover when I put this all back in that their is not enough room I'll be asking Paul to place behind the glovebox instead.

I fitted the door cards back on again!

It'll work just as well there as it will when fitted where BMW intended. It's just that when assessing an E30, and I come across it fitted under the instruments rather than behind the glovebox, it's just a small point that goes in the negative pile rather than the positive, as it gives the impression that whoever worked on it didn't quite know how it should be done.

Well Brian was right to say it should go behind the glovebox, as it would not fit behind the speaker! However enough wire was left to leave it safely behind the lower dash driver panel!

I installed a new lower dash panel as the old one was torn to bits at the brake pedal.
