Steering linkage is very different on LH drive cars. Nothing like that on any RH drive car that I've seen.

I've got a LHD E30 but with manual rack and steering is drum tight so can't say I've ever experienced any steering issues.
However I've read elsewhere that E34's suffer from similar problems

Thats an american mongrel, they had airbags on a lot of cars which had a different column, the column shown is very similar to the usual E34 type that is adjustable in length
