My central locking seems to have developed a strange fault , I can lock the two doors , petrol flap and boot from the boot and I can open both doors , boot and petrol flap from the drivers side but I cannot do vice versa , any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi mate, hope you are keeping well, not sure about this have you tried some of the diagnosis on the wiki page?

https://www.e30zone.net/e30wiki/index.p ... g_problems

Otherwise I've given it a bump to the top hopefully Brian might see it have an idea about it :thumb:

Hi Brian the passenger door only opens and locks the passenger door , but it will open and lock from the boot .

There are microswitches that provide lock and unlock requests to the locking ECU, by briefly connecting the relevant wire to earth. The doors share the same lock/unlock request wires, and the boot uses separate ones.
Circuit diagram is here: http://www.autolib.diakom.ru/CAR/BMW/19 ... /fig10.pdf Note that it's for a LH drive car, so 'right front' should be read as 'left front'.
The unlock and lock switches are part of the lock motor on the driver's side.
On the passenger side, the unlock switch is in the lock motor, but the lock switch is on the plate held by the large C clip that holds the lock barrel in place. The similarly positioned switch on the driver's door is the deadlock switch.
The unlock and lock switches are bolt part of the lock motor for the boot.
Check that the microswitches on the plates are working properly as the key turns, and that the rods to the lock motors move far enough to work the switches in them. The lock motors can be moved in their slotted mounts.
There's also the possibility that the wires in the doors to the ECU aren't making it through the door plugs in the A pillar, but the pins for these don't normally give trouble.
