Does anyone know the part number for a brake fluid cap? Not the type with an in-built sensor.

Do you mean the clutch fluid reservoir cap? All the brake fluid caps I've seen have a built in sensor.

No, but that's interesting. Mine is black, no sensor, cracked, held on with tape. Could just be a botch job. All I can find online are ones with sensors.

That definitely should have a sensor in the cap, and your MOT tester should have recorded it as a 'minor' defect (used to be an advisory).
The wire to the sensor should come from the middle grommet on the end of the fusebox that faces towards the centre of the car, and the wires should be brown/blue and brown.
It sounds like you have a clutch reservoir cap fitted at the moment - the poorest quality part BMW fitted to an E30 when they built the RH drive versions.

Thanks, that's helpful. I'll fix it. The Aussie equivalent of an MOT basically just requires wheels and a horn.

Looking again it's very obviously not right.

Just out of interest, could you start a thread giving the details of your test in your country and ask if people will add their countries too, could be fun this one

Mart.
Only the E46 cab left now.
Just got too old.
