I’ve had the same fault, don’t laugh for the best part of 10 years. If I blip the throttle the the revs drop down to just under 500 and then goes back to just over 1k.At around 1500/2000 it kangaroos but as it gets rolling it gets better,it also seems to be misfiring, the Farster I go the better it gets.Ive changed a number of things, but throw some ideas at me and I’ll tell you if I tried it

TPS set up properly? Not just 'working'.
Air leaks between AFM and throttle body?
Injectors up to spec.?

Also has someone been at your AFM idle mixture adjuster - is the plastic plug still in there?

What was your last MOT gas analyser result - it could point to a lean idle??

Have you checked all the air lines? -by checked i mean remove and check by hand (as opposed to just check on the car). I removed a hose from my 190 some years ago and whilst i looked fine on the car it was split on the other side .

Whats sort of state is the throttle body in?

Thanks for the replies,first Brian,
I’ve had the TPS set up a couple of times but I’m not sure the guys who did really new how to set it up properly.Air leaks, not sure,I’d like to use one of those smoke machines but I don’t know anyone local with one, fuel injectors have never been serviced, the car has done 135k,
paultv,
When I got the car the fault seemed to be there from day one of my ownership, the macanic I used didn’t know you shouldn’t touch the idle mixture adjuster but it made no difference at all.ill have to check my last MOT.

No I haven’t done a major air leak test but as above ,I’d like to smoke test the system to rule out one and for all air leaks.

Can't help feeling it is worth a run across to Barry's place when the weather picks up. He has a nice set-up there now. Not that far from you really and at least would get a definitive answer. The Crown is not a bad pub round the corner for lunch either.

Yes I agree with you but it’s a daily car and I’m not sure Barry works on Saturdays

I think he's open on a Saturday morning, unfortunately he doesn't appear on here much these days, give him a ring and I'm sure he'll still help out a Zoner :thumb:

Use fag lighter gas to test for leaks. Spray it (carefully) round the pipes and manifold with the engine ticking over. The revs will will rise if it gets sucked into a leak.

Did you (or the person before you) reset the DME when the TPS was adjusted?

Find someone who Vapes/uses E-Cigarettes and use that to find air leaks instead of actual smoke.

Resetting the DME/ECU is simple, either unplug the DME/ECU connector for at least 10 seconds, i disconnect both negative and positive leads from the battery for at least 10 seconds.
