I wanted a couple of extra keys for the chromie to be daily use as I have the complete set of original keys including tags etc and although the original torch key is OK it won't take much more abuse and I would like to keep it safe.

They are the early 'short' keys for locks without the deadlock (they have an "I" on the key) as opposed to the longer deadlock keys (which have an "S" stamped on them.

Unfortunately Cotswolds Jon has confirmed all short keys are now NLA so a replacement original is off the cards. I would have liked a new original key but that is not going to happen.

Questions

Anyone had a long key cut to fit the short locks?

Failing that anyone know somewhere to get good 'short' key blanks as all I can see are the longer version

I think these guys still have them:

You need to include your vin and a copy of your registration document...

but they have Live Chat in English so just ask them what the deal is.

Thanks for the link, unfortunately they are still the longer "S" key which I have.

I have been told the longer key blanks will not fit early cars but having the 2 side by side I think a shorter key can be cut from the longer blank, which is why the shorter ones may have been discontinued.

I have a good locksmith nearby so will let them have a look.

ah, OK, yes maybe grinding a shorter key could work if the profiles are the same, which I guess they should be!
