Yellow 1378419
White 1378417

I recently ordered 2 of each to replace my plug housings for the back of my headlights.

Check the part numbers as these were for an Aussie delivered Euro spec 320i

As far as I know the plugs for the lights are the same as those on the diff' sensor and possibly screen wash pump, so maybe that's why their purpose isn't specified.

If they all do the same job then I don't see why the colour matters!

Because they have subtle differences in shape that prevent them being plugged into the wrong socket.

Fair enough, but I currently have a light plug in my diff and it's a perfect fit.

There's a limited number of shapes that can be made! They're only different when there's a chance of them being fitted in the wrong sockets.
Not much chance of the diff. plug being plugged into a headlamp, so the same pattern can be used.

No you need to get the correct waterproof wire connectors that clip in to the coloured shell. They only have green wire. You need 2 per plug

There are straight and angled connectors of a few sizes depending on the plug you have. I had to do a bit of trial and error to find the ones I needed

If you use a molex pin removal tool then you can the pins out of the original plug.

You can out of some of the multiplugs, but not these water resistant ones.
In a lot of cases it's just the outer coloured shell that's required to get things back to 'as new'. The only time the buckets need renewing is when the insulation on the wire has cracked close to the bucket, and in these cases I've always used one from scrap loom and spliced the wires together.

But isn't Mart converting from Pre FL lights??

From what I remember from over 25 years ago when I put smileys on mine the Pre-FL had simple spade connectors held in a black frame. To convert to bullets or smileys properly you would need to splice in the green tails (or donor pig-tail cuts) in place of the spades then clip in to the coloured plug housing. Which plug into the back of the Smiley/Bullet

Trust me there are lots of ways that plug can be made, I have quite a selection of wrong shapes. Nothing that cannot be fixed by rounding a square off with a stanley blade but if you are doing it properly…..

Oh but keep the old connectors you cut off in case (as I am) you end up going back to original one day :banghead:

Even better put some spades on the other end of the smiley wiring to plug into the pre-FL headlight socket making an adapter lead :thumb:

Too many years of doing it that way, got to fight the urge. Bodges the proper way, done a couple of decades ago are still going strong but I am still going to rip them out and put it back as the gods at BMW intended :nono: stop them turning in their grave before I join them :D

Do you have a link for these or better still can you remember which ones you used ?
I have had a look at mine and the "white " plug is straight and the "yellow" is at 90 deg`s.

Hi Mart

What I got probably not much use to you as it was not for headlights, it was for something completely different

I have just had a look at the back of the headlights on my early facelift (fitted with bullets) it has a white plug for the main beam and a yellow plug for the dip beam. Both straight plugs, stamped with 'bmw' but helpfully no part number on either of them.

I have checked the realoem pages and it seems to show angled for both
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showpa ... 1131378419

Linking them to an ebay seller who tends to have good photos and they are again both angled
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Wiring-C ... Sw8xxckrn-
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Wiring-C ... Sw6JZckrtd

Either way you need (1,0-2,5 MM² cable for headlights)

61130007442 for the straight connector
61130007446 for the angled connector

From this page

The pictures in the ETK(realism) are just generic drawings of an electrical plug and may not look anything like the actual item.

Agreed, you need to look at the drawing but also search pictures of the part number it shows to see what the item actually looks like, which is why I tend to put the part number into google or ebay.

In this case they were accurate, it showed the difference between a (generic) angled plug and the straight one.

A picture is worth a thousand words!

Yellow 1378419 (90 degree cable exit)
White 1378417 (90 degree cable exit)

Appears a different part number for the yellow connector where the cable exits straight out the back
