It took 5 minutes to mate the gearbox back onto the engine housing, I cut 2 M12 studs and used them as guides then spun one out and put the bolt in...you can see the makeshift stud in the top picture.

Took 2 hours of hideous cursing and frustration to get the top starter motor bolt in, what a pig - you need two people to do this.

My wooden jack cradle, set at the correct angle worked a treat too.

Paul :-)

thats a good idea with the studs,

when i changed the clutch on mine a few years ago i did the same but left the studs in place afterwards, i screwed them tight into place but used some loctite threadlocker on the engine side to keep them in,

will make it so much easier next time i need to do it,
did the same with the sump bolts when i fitted the crank scraper.
if it's got t*ts or wheels it's bound to be trouble...............prove me wrong.
getting oral sex off an ugly person is like rock climbing.....don't look down ;)

Ordered a Sachs clutch over the LUKs for my M40 powered E30 a week ago, before seeing this thread. Glad I did now after watching your video!

After a successful 700 mile round trip to north London and back, the car feels good and the clutch is great.

Whilst in town I had the car on a Hunter wheel alignment rig as I am interested in the overall set up since I rebuilt the front end and did the alignment myself.

There's a disparity in the camber which I'm looking into and oddly enough they reckoned the steer ahead was out.

My alignment gave a total toe of -19 minutes which is 1 more than textbook, so that's ok, it means my alignment is good.

I had them alter the steer ahead and reset the tracking to -18 mins.

Driving back on the nice long flats thru Belgium and Holland had the car drifting to the right and requiring a left bias to keep the car straight.

So I wonder how they set the steer ahead or is it just some random "Chappy" guessing what's what?

I've put it all back how it was and the drive is now fine again.

This only stands to remind myself to have faith in my own workmanship and attention to detail.

Paul :-)

Most roads have a slight camber to the kerb side.

So if driving on the right then the camber will pull the car to the right slightly.

Yes that's true of course, but was the same in the UK when driving on the left and the rack was not centred after the alignment.
