Morning lads and ladies

I'm a new member and already seeking advice lol, I have the opportunity to by an e30 325i 1989 of a customer of mine however I'm a little uneducated on the value of an e30 these days and wanted to check the asking price was reasonable.

I'll get it out the way, he wants £12k

Mot till next year

The car is solid it had a full respray several years ago and I can't see to find any filler like not a single bit (magnet test) it's got 87k miles pretty regular service history, things like cambelt still need to be confirmed

It has been lowered on springs not coilovers with some sort of replica Alpina alloys

Interior is decent for the age cloth seats in good nick but the drivers bolster is starting to go

Engine has a hesitation issue I've tired cleaning the ICV and throttle body, it made a difference but still there, abs and low pad warning lights are on so needs attention on the brakes

Other than that I'm not sure wat to say, if anyone can tell me if this guy is dreaming or the asking price is fair I will be very grateful

I'll post a pic of it

My personal opinion is that the owner should fix everything to a very high standard before asking that kind of money.

The ABS light alone is an MOT failure ... and a " hesitation issue" is wide open ...look how many threads are on this board from owners struggling with these problems.

I'd give him 5k for a car in this condition....even if the bodywork is good ...

Sorry to be negative.

I would say 12k is dreamer territory. If the issues were sorted I'd suggest a price of between 5-7k assuming it is rust free, which unfortunately it almost certainly isn't!

Hi there,

Agree with what others are saying. imo worth around £6-7k if bodywork spot on, with those issues. £10-12k you'd want all issues sorted and pretty much OEM spec with a decent set of 15" BBS. Assume interior is sport front seats, are they leather or cloth?

Thanks for the reply the exterior is rust free underneath is I would class as satisfactory for a car that age I didn't see anything that worried me but ur right I had a feeling 12k is dreamer material

Cheers for the reply yes the interior is cloth, I believe sport although I can't be sure, the seats look sportish with deep bolster areas

Yes sounds like sports seats, factor in the cost to get the bolster repaired, not always easy to get a perfect match.

Assuming those running issues are simple to resolve, maybe it is worth a bit more, £8ish? The aftermarket Alpina copies do it no favours, particularly as the seller is asking top money for it.

Very hard to accurately price different models, given they've gone up over the past few years. It does feel like the values have levelled off a bit recently (maybe some models have gone up too quickly).

In my head (very rough guide, other users will correct me) but I think of it like this currently (in 2019):

M3, £35k upwards, £60k for a minter
325 Sport (will say Sport on the V5, also has the factory Mtec 2 bodykit), £10k upward, £20k for a minter
325i & 318is, £5k upwards, £12k for a minter
316/318/320, £2k for something with an MOT (unless it's a Touring which are weirdly still undervalued compared to the other body types)

It must have had welding in the last few years or you'd at least hope so given the recent advisories on the MOT history.

I agree...looking st the mot history shows the same advisories over years, brakes, tyres, suspension components and so on. The owner(s) have spent minimal money on maintaining the car, I'd be very suspicious of what's lurking under a coat of paint.

My cabby had been re sprayed and not very well, underneath was a wealth of problems I'm still sorting out after 5 years, at great expense..
