Wired up the engine in my reshell yesterday and tried to start it before i move on to paint prep.
The starter done the same think in the donor car but it did start with a booster on the battery so thought low battery or sticky starter.
Anyway yesterday it was just constantly clicking with a full battery and also a boost so bench tested another starter which worked but done the same when installed .Also the original starter bench tested ok .

Anyone any idea's?

I'm thinking earth strap between chassis and engine might be at fault so away to change that this morning but can't think of anything else if that doesn't work .

I have no clocks or interior fitted atm but can't see why that would matter ?

I'd be checking the cable to the starter, but also the cables to the battery. Could be a bad earth there too

Turned out it was the earth between the chassis and the engine .Changed it and cranking no bother now.

Hope you don't have an oil level sensor on this. Bad bit of design by BMW on this places the earth wire to the sensor in parallel with the engine to chassis wire, and this 0.5mm wire doesn't appreciate carrying the starter motor current.
