How to Identify Gearbox

Yeah OK, it's the big thing behind the engine with a stick in the top.

More specifically, how do I work out if my soon-to-be-fitted spare gearbox is what I actually bought.
I bought (on here, about 15 years ago) a "close ratio" gearbox from "a 325i sport".

It has Getrag stamped on the side, obviously. It also has a part number 260.0.1346.90 which seems to be the part number for 'any old getrag 260'.

How do I tell if this is what I think it is?

You need to check the extra suffix numbers stamped on the bell housing of the box - and yes there is a sport box with closer ratios -

check in the Wiki files - it lists everything you need to know.
