This question is almost certainly gonna get a mixed response.
This is after all an E30 site, so advice is going to be to keep your E30 but there are plenty of people who would buy your 318is.

So how much do you want for it if you do sell it?

What tempts you towards E36 land? - obviously more power and comfort but there will not be the same driveability and lightness to the car in the way that an E30 can be thrown around. An E36 is a much heavier beast.

But you know all this I'm sure...

The E36 is not such a nice looking car - a few can be made to look nicer with good colour/wheel/accessory combinations...

the 328 is in a different league of refinement and performance to any standard E30 (exotics excluded) but from what i hear from owners & drivers who have stepped from the E30, is that the experience is just not as enjoyable. If you have a reliable and rot free E30 then you have a nice car.

Sometimes you have to move away and try other things, I have and have moved to the dark side. My current car is so far removed from the E30 the comparisons are pointless, but it lacks the involvement feedback & chuckability of the E30. Inert, i think is the word i'm looking for.

I think anyone with their head screwed on the right way round would have the E36 any day of the week. There is a certain amount of snobbery around where people running a C-reg carbed 316i would say "Eurgh, wouldn't be seen dead in an E36 328i Sport, not as nimble blah blah blah" when really they just couldn't afford to be in an E36 of any description. I'm fed up with my E30 Sport because it is shit and slow and if I were to buy another BMW then it would probably be an E36 M3. Juts my opinion before anyone starts getting there hackles up, people are so dedicated to E30's here it is untrue...

Don't agree with this
An E36 328i sport costs next to nothing and you can get an E36 m3 for Ԛ£5k these days
Sure they're much quicker, but they look like an ugly old sierra from the front, and a 318is is just such fun to chuck around in tight bends/roundabouts.
All depends what you want from your car at anygiven time, you might have one - get bored and switch to the other or vice versa
Cheers,
Robin

I had read that there was about 270 kilo difference
according to http://www.unixnerd.demon.co.uk/e30.html
although this is just one nerd's site and I can't find more reliable data
what's the source of your data mate - I want to read the right stuff

interesting! have never seen that before

a mate of mine has one an the book says its weight is only 110 more than mine; thats an e36 318is not 328i tho;

i think they are both good cars but it depends what you want

the e36 is certainly coming out of that rude boy stage and becoming a classic i feel
