Hi guys,

So im looking for a e30 325 and i got an offer from somebody that my friend knows a little bit. Checked the car. Tehnical side is good, body is pretty okay too and price is okay, but one thing catched my eye, it had battery in engine bay. I have never seen 325 with battery in engine bay, all cars that i have seen have it in trunk. So Im little worried that maybe the body isnt 325 and its swaped 320 with changed vin.

Is it standard in 325 to have battery in trunk and are there any other differences to check to tell if its a 325 or 320 body?

It's not standard for a 325 to have the battery in the boot. Many have been retro-fitted and it was possibly an option when ordering from new. Beyond that there are no differences between the 320 and 325 body as far as I know.

There are minor differences between shells - mounts for one horn behind grill or two horns under chassis rail panels, mounts for 4 cylinder/6 cylinder AFM, mounts for ABS pump or not, mounts for 6 cylinder rad. header tank, mount for clutch fluid reservoir on manual cars, etc.

I though it was a pre / facelift change, battery in the engine bay for Pre and moved in to the boot for a facelift to help weight the back end down?

There must have been a change at some point. I don’t think you could fit a full size battery in the back of my 323i. There is certainly more room behind the wheel well in the early FL 325i Obviously convertibles and tourings had them in the front.
