Driving Holidays
Moderator: martauto
We are going to Ireland this year for a driving holiday and it was a toss up between the 325 cab and the Baur but in the end we chose to do a fly drive !!
We fly from Leeds to Dublin and pick up a hire car from the airport for a week and it will cost us less than taking the ferry from Holyhead.
I am talking about over £150 less which is not to be sniffed at, but I would have really loved to have
taken one of the Bimmas .
So where are you going this year for your road trip ?
Mart.

Only the E46 cab left now.
Just got too old.

I drive down to Le Mans every year for the 24h, hopefully have the e30 for next years trip. Going to be taking it to Germany too.
I used to take my 911 over to Ireland, some amazing roads and equally impressive back drops for photos.

planning on spending a week or so next month camping on the east coast (lincolnshire) & revisiting some old long forgotten back roads i haven't been down in over 6yr's, going to be taking the sport down them for a good thrash for old times sake.
if it's got t*ts or wheels it's bound to be trouble...............prove me wrong.

FFS for the sake of £150 I would have taken the Baur,
me, I took the Subaru and friends from Poland and their kids to Cornwall, they loved it, me well I have naughty thoughts as I am planning on a major renovation at home so may not be able to live at home so I thoughtI may hooon around Cornwall or Italy and l can live in one of these and then sell it on,

Just returned from a holiday near Bordeaux with the e30. Not so much a driving holiday but 500 miles of motorway each way. The quality of the roads are outstanding. I probably only hit one pothole the entire time driving in France. Planning on the same again next year with a 2 day visit to the Pyrenees, as I will be staying only a couple of hours away from roads like this. I've already started planning a route and places to stop off

Not really a driving holiday, but here we are on the island of Texel, in full camping mode.

Stuff it, dragged the E30 out of the garage today to check a few things and replace a capless lamp that sorted a few issues out was going to pull out the cluster to sort out the "wondering arms phenomena" anyways decided as its nice to stuff that one and plan a road trip to Swanage in the morn meet up with a mate at Kimmeridge later on with his family dinner in the pub and crash at his rince and repeat next day.
For Mart this has a proper folding roof and a proper engine at 2.5 ;o)))

Another successful trip - car covered 800KM to the Dutch Island of Texel and back
No worries, apart from slight soggy feel to the clutch pedal on a couple of occasions - as the slave is new I reckon its time for a new Master cylinder.
Not now though, off to Verona tomorrow for a week !!
I'll send you guys a road side shot when the clutch fails

I took the E30 M3 across Europe to South of France and drove back again via Zermatt. Never missed a beat and surprisingly comfortable for the journey.
I’ve done several Euro road trips in the E61 M5 as that thing rips up the miles with ease and touching 165mph on the Autobahn is liberating.

Mart... I was gutted to get to the end of your post only to read that you didn't take one of your e30's....
Especially Ireland... Fantastic drivers place..
But hey, a holidays a holiday...
I once took my E30 to Ypres Belgium as support for my parents who were competing in the Ypres historic stage rally... That was fun
Regards Anton

It was a bit cheaper to do the fly drive but I get sea sick in the rain mate so what an excuse for me.
It`s ok folk saying it`s only a couple of hours but it lasts for a few days for me but I would have loved to have taken my e46 330 ci sport but some d**k wrote it off for me so the e46 325 cab was going to go there instead .
Thank you the Wright bro`s.

After a week working in Verona, I left this afternoon and drove back to Austria over the Brenner and then the Fernpass, 35C in Italy then some rain over the passes, but kept the top down and speed up, didn't get wet at all !
Stunning scenery, huge mountains, snow on the tops, great drive on those long snakey roads.
Check out the pizza snack on the boot lid, yummy, totally Italian Job.
After I stopped I had to put the roof up, started to piss down!

So I made it back without any issues except a wind and sun burned face from thrashing the car at 180kph on the auto bahn for hours, and a nice convoy hook up with three other 80's icons, a mk1 golf GTI ragtop and 2 Audi's, all in great shape. Real fun to be able to push the cars hard, lots of top down grinning as we swept past the hoards of dull looking modern junk.
New master and slave clutch cylinders waiting for me when I got back, so that's my next jon.

Can't really - mostly under NDA for these things...
Great music - top stars, and best of all, nice people - a lot of interest in the car, especially from the Italiens, as it sat outside the theatre all week in the street with the sound engineers ride.

I have to agree - not easy to find rear squab without the stitching split over the top centre curves - mine are still ok -
