Hi,
I am looking at doing a M52 swap with M42 gearbox, can I use the M40 prop shaft or does it have to be 325i one? Comparing the length of the M40 with 325i one they are almost the same only 3mm in it. M40 is 1480mm and 325i is 1483mm

Any help greatly appreciated.

Is there anyone who can verify if M40 propshaft will work with M52B28 and M42 gearbox? I ask this question as there is conflicting information on the M5X swap guide.

Under the Propshaft section on the link https://www.e30zone.net/e30wiki/index.p ... Swap_-_M5x it states that

"If you have fitted the M42 or M20 gearbox, then a standard E30 propshaft can be used."

Below this in the "Combinations" table (2nd entry) which says that the M20 325 Propshaft is required.

Is anyone able to verify if M40 can also be used for this?

I have a 328i ZF box and prop in the garage so can measure the overall length for you. You should then be able to work out which prop you need by taking away the length of your M42 box and comparing it to the E30 prop lengths on the wiki.

It's not ideal, but maybe worth a go if you can't get any definitive answers on here.

you will need 320i prop and the gear linkages from same car

This seems to conflict with what is documented on the Engine Swap - M5x wiki page, this states to use a 325i prop as detailed below;

Engine M52B28
Flywheel M20 325i
Clutch M20 325i
Gearbox M42 318iS
Propshaft M20 325i
Modifications E30 318iS gearbox crossmember using E30/E36 gearbox mounting rubbers. E30 320 gear shift rods If using the M42 box a new M20 spigot bearing is needed (12mm hole)

Is this the accurate?
