I've been quoted Ԛ£316 to replace the clutch on my 318i (m40).
Sounds quite reasonable to me, its an AA Approved clutch centre, is that a good price? what kinda prices have you guys been charged?

that must get embarrasing!dobbie82 wrote:c) I dont know my arse from my elbow
Seems a touch expensive, as has been said that equates to around Ԛ£200 labour! see if a tyre and exhaust centre will do it any chaper?

Try ringing round to see what places would charge just for fitting. If you can get a cheap clutch from ECP etc then some places might charge less. I work in a car garage , and beleive me, when waiting for parts and ordering them through the garage, sometimes people get done over!

Yeah I would expect you could still get it done at a reasonable garage for under Ԛ£200. Try sourcing the part yourself and paying a reputable garage to fit it...ask around work etc and see what garages your colleagues reccomend.

You should shake your elbow for the lads...
Seriously though, dont let yourself get ripped off 200 quid to have it fitted. Even a different clutch place will be cheaper though your best bet is to hassle one of these guys and pay a nominal fee and lots of tea...

got a quote of Ԛ£250 from the garage I use for my MOT's, and they will pick it up from outside my house. (5 miles from garage) so ive booked it in
i dont know how much their hourly rate is but its 4 hours book time. garages where im from in wales charge Ԛ£35-45 an hour.
least i get a 12 month warranty. will probably get them to sort a few other niggly jobs while they at it!

I didn't see the conclusion of the other thread but is this the car you lost the gears in ?
It seems a bit odd for a clutch to gust give up that quick without a warning
Have you ruled out the slave cylinder ?
