The car has been idling at very low rev's recently, took the connector off the idle control valve today and there was no difference. Is this normal or has the ICV gone?

nah, thats normal i think, try taking the plug off and removing the rubber pipes from it (with engine and ignition switched off by the way) and clean the inside out with some carb/brake cleaner spray, then reassemble and it might work a little better

The difference was shall we say noticableDazzyA wrote:The car has been idling at very low rev's recently, took the connector off the idle control valve today and there was no difference. I've got a very rough idle once my 320i Touring has done 2 hours on the motorway and is warm.
I've removed the ICV and flushed it really well with carb cleaner. This made little difference so I replaced the fuel filter and that was really dirty but brought no major improvement.
Has anybody dismantled the ICV, i.e. opened the metal tabs and removed the alloy end (which accepts the 2 tubes) from the black housing (with the electrical connector at the end)?
Is any further cleaning possible than just spraying carb cleaner into the openings in the alloy end of the ICV & scrubbing everything thats visible?
If one dismantles the whole thing is it possible to get better results?
I've also replaced the blue temp sensor.
Is a new ICV the only answer or could I have another issue?
Thanks,
Sharknose

Mine is now ticking over at about 4000rpm's, It doesn't stall and is pretty smooth. I have renewed inlet gasket's, throttle body gasket, cleaned ICV sprayed carb cleaner so am now going to replace ICV and blue temp sensor. Can't think of anything else.
