Hi,

I've a 1987 325i vert manual which doesn't like to start when it's warm/hot?

When it's cold it fires up on the button with no hesitation and like a dream.

But once it's up to running temperature and driving around it seems to crank over for a while before she fires up?

Any idea on what I need to change or is this the norm for an old 325i?

Thanks

This is a symptom of a fuel leak although it could be something else!. Carefully check all the lines.

It has it's MOT last week and there are no issues with the fuel or fuel lines, I also had a good look underneath and they are fine.

Injectors? I only purchased the car in October and I haven't touched them and there's nothing in the history folder? If it was injectors wouldn't they also effect it when it was cold?

A leaking injector(s) would show the symptoms you describe.

One tip is to be very gentle and quick when turning the key. It only needs the most minor of spark to fire into life. I think most m20 cars have this issue, ive had two that done it, and doing what I said always meant it fired straight away, rather than cranking it hard for 5 seconds to get it going.

This isn't an M20 quirk, it' a fuel related problem!

if the history is silent on them being overhauled (adding some injector clearer to the fuel is meaningless btw) remove them and have them cleaned, removal guide is in the wikki - its straight forward , injectortne (one of the traders) can overhaul then for about £12-15 per injector.

I'll check and clean the injectors when my mechanic friend comes over and i'll also try the gentle but quick key turn.

unless you have the equipment to properly overhaul and more importantly balance each injector you will be wasting your time- they need cleaning via ultrasonic, balancing and fitting with new seals et al- Injectortune will do the lot for £15.00 per injector.

most zoners simply purchase a used set from a trader, have them overhauled and then fitted- the old set are then resold etc.
