E30 Storage

Hey guys,

Just out of interest... how does everyone store their E30’s? Garage, cover or just in the open?

Seen quite a few posts where people are saying they don’t even bring it out in the winter! I’ve been driving mine, but it’s making me wonder if I shouldn’t!

Mines uncovered on the drive.
As long as you keep on top of any rust, as soon as you see it, should save you a lot of stress later on down the line.

Semi dry garage for me

I'd love to keep mine in my garage but that's my extra storage space! Mine is uncovered in the driveway, washed near enough every week but protected with wax every 6 months to keep the paint protected. I look out for bird poo and use a bit of car wash shampoo mix to remove it. The dash is crack free so I have a sun shade in the windscreen to keep it that way as best possible. Need to keep the wheel arches clean on the inside edge as they can be a magnet for mud and road salt that sticks and then rusts. I do a wheels off, plastic liner out clean before and after winter and put a new coat of underbody sealer to protect it.

Paint protection is key, a good wax will help with this.

Sounds like you’ve got it down to a tee! Would you recommend a rust converter before the underbody sealer? I’ve got a few orangey patches on my inner arches that need dealing with...

After a good degrease, a rust stabiliser is a very good idea. I've used Kurust myself a few times but there are many different ones out there. If you've got the time, you could also put a layer of anti rust primer down first then underseal in top of that once it has dried.
