So i was chatting with a few mates today about this issue, so ill ask you lot too!!
Do you think with all this movement towards saving the polar bears will mean that cars such as E30's will ever reach the stage of actually being banned?
Personally, i do think we all need to do or bit to reduce climate change/ plastic usage etc, but was just thinking about all this talk about banning the sale of petrol/ diesel vehicles by 2030?

The banning is of new diesel and petrol cars, so since there's little chance of any new E30s being planned for production after 2030, it won't really affect us.
The problem, eventually, will be the demise of the supply network for petrol and diesel, making fuel difficult and expensive to find, and the spread of ULEZs.
The good news is that a relatively unsophisticated engine, such as the ones fitted to E30s, can be easily adapted to run on alternative fuels, such as bio ethanol (carbon neutral) or liquid propane (carbon neutral, as long as the oil industry exists, and pollutant free). I have a propane powered BMW that is classified just one class below fully electric vehicles for the purposes of the French equivalent of ULEZs.
There's also the possibility of converting your E30 to electric power. The company that built the electric car that the dwarf off of Top Gear crashed and nearly killed himself in when it caught fire a couple of years ago did their development work on an E30.

hard to say really,

some say that the planet goes in cycles (hot & cold) & that it is coming out of an ice age, prof stephen hawkins said it long before he died,

true we do need to do out bit but why should this country pick up the tab for he likes of india, china etc who are far more polluting than this country?

the argument also comes down to the building of hybrid cars/vans, they cause far more pollution due to the mining for the nickel for the batteries & the transportation of the materials to where they are built & while being built than most cars of any age that are currently on the road,

also, don't forget what thatcher said about catalytic converters in the 80's, that they would cause a rise in co2 levels,

but of course they don't want you to know anything about the planet going in cycles as they can't tax you on what occurs naturally or make you feel guilty about it.

as for the likes of e30's being banned?? i think most of that is aimed at the manufacture of new cars by then & lets be honest, i very much doubt there will be any e30's left on the road by then.
if it's got t*ts or wheels it's bound to be trouble...............prove me wrong.
getting oral sex off an ugly person is like rock climbing.....don't look down ;)

Ah yes, i have heard about the hot & cold cycles thing elsewhere too and it does seem to be a reasonable argument. I also completely agree that us as a country only contribute to less than 2% of the worlds pollution and China/ India are the largest and really dont have any signs of slowing!
As for America... dont think Trump "believes" in it!!

Im sure, in the future, electric components will be lots easier to get hold of and put into an e30. possibly, if done carefully, the weight distribution could remain the same too so it still feels vaguely like an e30, idk

Mining Lithium etc for batteries must be doing harm, especially at the quantities that would be needed if everyone was to go electric?

That was the Croatian guy Rimac, the issue is that it may not be worth converting an old car to electric as the LEZ and ULEZ zones won't recognise a conversion as a converted car will still be classed as what it was built as unless the rules change I would love to build my own electric car.

I also believe its a manipulation by the people in power corralling us in to a post oil future, the rich will get richer, we will just end up paying more in tax to fund everything,

I agree - it's just politics - force people to buy new - great for the econmy - useless for the environment - and this witch hunt against classic cars is ludicrous - if you actually compare
the number of classics used on the roads daily with the number of HGV's hacking all over europe in their millions belching out diesel fumes - everyone over here has a diesel - pushed by the government for years - now becoming illegal - and what's going to happen to all these diesel cars? they'll be sold to countries with less stringent laws and the emission situation will remain the same.

By the way, I agree with the whole lithium nonsense - they'll be banned before they get a grip -

Clean air is currently a politcal fashionable fad - easier to ban things than do anything constructive - remember "low energy" light bulbs they made us buy - all in land fill sites now.

and by the way, it's appalling that your lo emission conversion is not "recognised" by the UK government - it's disgusting - how desperate are they to get you to "consider" your transport
needs as it says on their website - and buy some new piece of crap.

Plant more trees!!! Come on how hard can it be! They're always making us feel guilty about the amazon and the loss of its rainforest. Just plant more elsewhere.

One thing is for sure, with the tensions in Venezuela and Syria, I think the world's oil supplies are running lower than they like to let on. I personally don't think there will be much warning when the supplies dry up.

Completely agree on the trees!! Also, there is so much housing being thrown up at the moment which makes me wonder whether when all these people move in if there will be enough space???

They where spouting bout oil running out/30 years ago technology moved on and the rigs where able to drill deeper and you also have a moveable drill head., Spent 10 months at a deepwater drilling/exploration company, interesting stuff.

Lithium batteries won't need to get banned - they'll just become obsolete (like the low energy CFL lamps) as a different and improved battery technology takes over, just as we've already moved from Nickel Cadmium, to Nickel Metal Hydride, and on to Lithium Ion, and it won't stop there. Hopefully the future technologies won't be so 'dirty' to make.

Not sure this is true. I've seen it in print from two different sources now, that a LPG conversion on an E30, registered with the DVLA, will meet the requirements of the London ULEZ. As for an electric converted E30, if they won't accept it, then it needs to be driven into a ULEZ, and any penalty challenged in the courts to force a change in the rules.

When he was 19 he owned an E30 for drifting and racing and when he blew the engine he decided to build an EV and took it from there, 0-60 in 3.3s and 600 BHP......... and yes Hammond did crash a Rimac,
