Evening Gents,
MOT failed today and I m struggling to find info on the new forum... (old age moments)
Failed on
1. Horn not working
2. Left headlight not working
3. Wash / Wipe motor no working
I am thinking there is a common theme here which might be a wiring gremlin... earth fault maybe...
Any direction to previous or wiki posts with regards to any of the above would as always be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Gav

Nothing obviously common to those, other than they all earth to the body at the front of the LH inner wing. Plenty of other things do as well, so I doubt if the problem is there.
1/ Does relay K2 click when the horn button is pushed (ignition on)?
2/ Main or dip? Assuming dip, wiring is common up to the inner end of fuses 13 and 14, so if the matching headlamp is working, everything is working up to there. All that remains is the fuse itself, the wire to the headlamp, the lamp itself, and the earth return. Pull the plug off of the headlamp and connect a small 12 volt bulb across the ins of the plug.
3/ Wipe or wash?
Lastly, seems odd to submit a car for a MOT test with such easily checked things wrong.

Thanks for the reply Brian... will get it all checked out...
I am a lazy E30 owner who sends the car in for an MOT and expects whatever is wrong to be fixed on the day so that it passes...
1. Lights was working fine the night before MOT...
2. I had not used the wash/wipe for a week or so and did not know it was not working... wipe work fines, no water coming through the washer jets...
3. I was aware the horn was not working and advised, they can't figure out how to fix it...

Washer is often the pump itself, especially if the wipe sequence that should accompany the washers is working. Pull the plug off and connect a test lamp to the pins of the plug and operate the washers.
I'd be very wary of using a garage that can't figure out a simple horn fault! Does K2 click?

All sorted Brian... thanks
I sent through via email what I had found on here and your previous post... got a phone call midday saying they had managed to sort everything... they did not charge me for any of the extra work they did so I think they felt a bit feeble...
Anyways another MOT for another year... happy days...
