New Front Suspension

Finally got this finished, aligned and road tested - HUGE improvement OMG!

I used the eccentric bushes as well as the "Ford" drop links - Bilstein B4's and new everything - including new rubber.

It used to tram line badly - knock (one of the wishbones) shimmy when high speed braking - not center very well, I think the increased caster angle
helps with this (eccentric bushes) - the steering is very precise with good feedback and, best of all, it feels really sure footed and safe -

Upside of new correct front springs means the car sits correctly - this was obviously a big contributor to all the above.

Very happy - by the way I use a "trackace" for alignment - I wasn't really sure about whether it would work sufficiently well, but its spot on -
I set the Toe In to 18 minutes - checked it after a couple of test runs - spot on again - recommended if you like tweaking your own stuff!!

Actually no, I've got a 1.2 Polo which is great for economy, but not as much fun -

I'm still a bit anxious with the Beema since it blew the head gasket last summer, but it's done 3K miles since I put it back on the road so
I'm feeling more confident as time goes by!

Tuesday I'm driving the beast to Barcelona and then on the ferry to Ibiza - should be exciting!

and then in Agua Blanca after an overnight ferry - time to fiddle with the dying AFM total 1,495 km driven and a huge hole in the worlds petrol reserves - I calculated 12.5 km/litre on the drive.

and I'm back after a week of essentially trouble free driving - apart from the AFM issue which I hope is sorted with the replacement that was waiting for me.

3000 + km in a week - brilliant

Refrained from replying before, because the last time I went to Munich in an E30 it did not end at all well (flying porker), and I didn't want to jinx things!
This is an absolutely fabulous story, showing that an E30 can still mix it with all the modern stuff out there, and be used for everyday transport, including long distance international runs, with the reliability of any new car. Well done, and lets see others doing similar.

Too true - I bought my first e30 to tour around France and Spain, fully loaded with bike and camping gear. It had been sitting for a year but past its mot first time and didn't miss a beat after basic service. Since then I've been hooked.

One day round trip from Dortmund to Dover, 800 km total day out, two ferry rides, and reversed the headlamp aim to UK and back again, shopped at Halfords,
bought crumpets and Cadburys cream eggs for my German friends from Morrisons.

So what's the point ? I came back with a 12 month MOT, no advisories, and had a great drive to boot.

The weather was beautiful and actually delivered the car to the garage with the roof down and caught a glimpse of a grinning mechanic as he
jumped in and drove the car into the workshop!!

Also the replacement AFM for 70 euros works perfectly, gone is the lurching engine cut outs as you accellerate away from the lights! Bargain!

OK, time for a little outing!

You all know I'm up for a nice drive now and again, tomorrow morning, Saturday, I'm off to the Italian Alps - Dobiacco - so I thought I'd take the cabby of course!!

This is a pretty short trip really, only 900km each way! all being well back in five days..

I'll try and post something a little more picturesque this time!!

The poor old girl stood in the rain for 3 days and nights - until finaly the sun came out on the morning I left - so here we are in front of
The Mahler Salle in Dobiacco - made it home without any problems - but I hear a noisy rear wheel bearing making itself known - not surprising
after the caning the cars getting - another 2000km on the clock!
