Hi,
I'm a new owner of a '87 325i.
Its an european modell, with motronic 1.1 ECU, without check engine light. I wired the check engine light according to published electrican drawing, but it doensn't work.
When I'm connecting the ECU's pin 15 to ground (with unplugged ECU) the bulb is lighting, so the wiring is good.
I think this output of ECU is damaged, or this function is somehow not enabled in the ECU (because this version of ECU should know the check engine light, or shouldn't it?)
What can I do?
Thanks.
Tzl

I can only tell you that my 316i never had a check engine light---I discovered that there was never a bulb even in there to start with when changing the si batteries. I bought the car fairly new at the time so unlikely to have been meddled with by the previous owner who was a pensioner.

As far as I know, no European E30 came with the check engine light.
You can check the ECUs fitted here: https://www.e30zone.net/e30wiki/index.p ... e=Motronic

My ECU isn't in this list, (green label, 1 261 200 153) but it's 1.1 for sure .
But I never found any information about, is there any different between the european and the USA model's ECU or not. I think the ECUs are the same, and the only different is in the loom, and if I replace the missing check engine bulb and its wire, it should work. But it doesn't work in my car.
