I haven't done this before but I want to change my 316i cam.

Is it easy? What camshaft recommendations are there out there?

google m40 camshaft repair kit , you will need to change the timing belt and should change the water pump at the same time .

Not as easy as the M20, but still classified as easy. No automatic tensioner and cam pulley not keyed to camshaft are the main differences
