Smiley headlights to bullseye, how do I wire them up?

Need technical Q/A then you're in the right place

So my car used to have smileys before I bought it as a rolling shell.
A set of bullseyes came with the car and sidelights and high beams working fine but no dipped beam.
Checked fuses, scratched head, swore at it but still no joy.
Is there something simple I should be looking at? Thought about buying set of smileys but would rather keep these to swap to HID down the line.
Please help :)

Are the connectors different? Did a conversion from old style lamps to smileys last year for my son as the beam pattern needed to be changed and I remember soldering on replacement connectors he had the wiring downloaded from somewhere.

Bulls eyes to smileys should be a straight swap. The only difference between the two is a rectangular hole in the plastic 'reflector' - no electrical difference at all.
Pre facelift to bulls eyes/smileys involves connecting up an extra earth (brown) wire.

That might be it as my sons car was an 87.

I went from pre facelift to Bulls-eyes and needed to change the connectors, ( cheers Magpie ) .

Mine is a 89 facelift, had washer system if that makes any difference.
Might just buy some smilies.
Just weird all other lights come on apart from rear fog and headlights, il have a look for diagrams :)

An '89 car is already post facelift, so either smilies or bulls' eyes are already fitted and are interchangeable.
Only difference to the headlamps with wash/wipe is the chrome rings have small holes in them with plastic brackets attached.
Any wiring diagrams you may find online are usually for US models, and there are significant differences in the foglamp and headlamp wiring, to comply with local regs.
First thin to do with fault finding for any of these is to pull the relevant relay and link 30 and any 87 of its base with a piece of wire.

Have you pulled the plug off and checked that it is live when on dipped beam? Do the bulbs work? The rear fog lights problem might be a dirty switch, I had to take mine apart and clean it up, instructions in the wiki I think.
