Just gone for an MoT and it was pointed out that the O/S indicator repeater was not working. When I tested it, neither the live nor the earth seemed to be connected, which sounds as though they have somehow got unplugged from the loom. I assume their cable comes in behind the panel in the driver's footwell, I have not looked there yet, but is there anywhere else where a connector might have come undone?

So I have taken off the footwell panel and located the cable from the indicator, which terminates in a white female connector and is hanging loose. I suppose it must have been like that ever since I got the car. The problem now is that I cannot see the corresponding male connector. There is a mass of wiring coming up from floor level and all go to the door loom or the central locking ecu/interior light delay unit. Various loose sockets are visible but all but one are female, and the male one is blue single pole connector. so none of them are correct and it would make no sense for the indicator to be connected there anyway. Should there be a separate cable somewhere behind the dashboard? I do not really know where to look.

The connectors should be there on either side at dash level, unless you have somehow got a loom from an early car in there, dating from before when they were fitted.
One plug will have blue/black and brown wires, and the other side they will be blue/red and brown.

Thanks Brian, and delighted and relieved to see you posting again!
OK, I need to be looking up behind the dash, not down. You may remember my car has had a bit of butchering in the past but hopefully no one should have molested those.

And there it was, the cables with the corresponding male connector were tucked up above the ECU for some extraordinary reason. Bringing it round behind the ECU and plugging it to the female connector got the side repeater flashing away.
Thank you so much Brian, I doubt I would ever have found it without you pointing me in the right direction.
