M30B35 swap question

We have a 1986 325es. We want to swap in an M30B35. D we need the instrument cluster from the donor car? Or can we use the original instruments? Thanks.

I could be wrong but I think you can use the original cluster but would need the relevant coding plug for accurate readings.
