i'm no expert i just know a little - but i see it like this:

voltage is always 12 or 14 throughout all lighting circuits so no worries regarding volts.

current is provided by the battery or alternator on an on-demand basis - the bulbs you put in the sidelight positions will draw whatever current they require - so if you use 55 watt bulbs using ohm's law they'll draw 4.5 amps (max) (sounds a lot!!) - so long as they're protected by a 5 amp fuse the circuit will be fine. if in any doubt place an in-line 5 amp fuse near the bulbs.

if my motor goes near a bodyshop again i'm going to do this mod for sure. i'll remove the repeaters also.

regarding repeaters see side repeaters it'll probably go through an mot and 'they can always be re-added'.

i've never really liked the e30 repeaters - why have that big bit of black plastic? i have a set with the plastic area colour coded but they look rubbish when fitted.

and if the mot man notices and fails it i've always thought that repeaters could go inside the rear window just behind the b-pillar, a simple job that keeps legality and smooth lines! they'd be near to where traficators used to be mounted.

If you could find some way of building the side repeters in to the peice of trim just below the normal side repeters would look good with a smoked black lense/cover ? So you could hardly see them when not in use,nice and smooth looking.

Got a bit lost looking through that lot, but if you are trying to fit 21W orange bulbs in place of the parking lights in the headlamps, then as long as you can get them to physically fit, there will be no problems with wiring or fuses. Just connect the wires that used to go to the bumper indicators to your bulbs in their new position, after disconnecting the parking lamps.
The old dim dip driving light set up will still work for "sidelights " on the move, but you will have no front parking lights.
Construction and use regs (in the UK) require white parking lights visible from the front, and indicators to be visible from a certain angle from the side. Details on all this can be found in the SVA (single vehicle approval) manual, a publication well known to the kit car brigade.

nice one brian i wasnԚ´t to sure about the 21 w bulb switch (dont want to tamper with the lamp housing too much) but as said, the 5 w wont even come close to bright enough, shame really

if i can find a more powerfull bulb with the same envelope fiting then we may go ahead, otherwis it dosent look good for the project
