oil leak from the oil cooler

Evening
I seem to have developed a leak from my oil control valve (m20 325) which on the underside of the oil filter housing , I've managed to trace the part number 11 42 9 059 338 ,but the question is , how difficult is it to replace , can it be done in situ and a has anyone any tips to make the job easy and more importantly successful

unless this is a track car i would remove the oil cooler and pipework and replace with a B20 fitment for the filter.

Cheers .I have bought the new O rings and replacement valve so sourcing the parts wasn't a problem, although I'm not sure what the valve actually does. Is there any particular reason to get rid of the cooler etc ?

No particular reason to get rid of the cooler (unless it's fubared) but no reason to keep it either.

Ok thanks,as it's not defective other than a small weeping of oil I'll leave well alone. How effective it is as keeping the oil cooled I couldn't say but the designers thought it worthy of fitting them so I trust their judgement .

unless your running a track car modern oils are fare better now a days. When the E30 was designed an oil cooler was likely needed- but not nowadays.

Unless your doing a full flush out each oil change they just look like a place to collect oil deposits.
