i read in evo this month that bmw are planning a 335i in the new shape 3-series (can't remember the model code, but i mean the post-e46 model.)

using the new 3.0 magnesium 6 but with a turbo

300bhp plus is expected apparently. i think this is the engine i ultimately want for my e30! the next m3 is a v8 and i'd rather have a straight 6.

anyway regardless of whether i end up with the engine, at least soon i can go to sytners and order a 335i badge for my car :rasta:

Doubtful. Last pretrol turbo was the 745i, way back in the deepest, darkest eighties.

You'll prob find its the TT diesel from the 7 and 5.

have you looked at evo?

i know there's going to be a 335d too, but i wasn't talking about that.

apparently it's to fill the gap before the m3 arrives which won't be until 2007.

why do you say doubtful?

Yeah, I'd read about new petrol turbo 3-series cars to plug the gap to the M3.

I quite like the idea of a V8 in a modestly sized car :)

Audi have been doing that for a while now with the S4. BMW are just playing catch up.

If this new 335i is going to be a 3l straight six plus turbo surely they should badge it as a 345i following the rule that turbocharging equates to 1.5 time the performance of an n/a engine.

According to the Jan '05 issue of PBMW you're talking about the 340bhp 330Ti...has a turbo straight six 3 litre.

It's odd naming as I think 3 series' with a T before the i were compacts for the E36 and E46 :?

i just keep thinking how light that engine probably is, i bet the weight isn't vastly different to an m20.

340bhp

my V8 original M3 against the latest V8 M3
