Hi all
Power steering was making some horrible squeaking noises and not being sure when it was last done I decided to change the belt as per the wiki.
All went well until I needed to bring the new belt under tension, the toothed 19mm nut just spins.
I thought the nut had just worn over time but on closer inspection the teeth have snapped off the actual tensioner mechanism. The first couple have gone meaning I can’t tighten the belt.
I read elsewhere that you could manually push the steering pump with a pry bar but I’ve tried all angles and can’t seem to get it to move.
Can the asslembly be bought? Any other ideas? It’s been a day and am already fed up of no power steering.
Cheers
Chris

Thanks Paul, just to clarify this is the slider that the bolt sits in with teeth not the toothed nut?

The adjusting bar is 12311719992 and about a fiver, the idler (toothy nut) 12317677914 is also about a fiver as well - you can get all the nuts and washers also - same for the alternator mounts and aircon if you have it.
The part no's I've quoted are for a 1990 325i m20b25 - but you can search all on http://www.realoem.com/

Remember to loosen the bolts on the pump to bracket on the engine whilst you tension or the it will strip the teeth again.
